Barton Springs Walking Tour

Explore Austin’s beautiful Barton springs. Located a few miles southwest of downtown, the freshwater springs are not only a popular recreation site. They are also the city's environmental center and are rich with local history.

Texture the City is proud to take you on a relaxing stroll around one of Austin's treasures, Barton Springs. The city's most popular tourist attraction and a hit amongst residents too, the springs have and continue to be a sacred site, a steady source of water in an arid climate, and a place where people gather and play. The springs have also been a point of contention between African American youth and white segregationists and between developers and citizens who wanted to protect the water. Join us as we visit Barton Springs Pool and two other nearby springs, and learn about the springs' unique ecology and the many ways that Barton springs have shaped local history and culture.

Cost: $20

Seniors and students $15. Children 11 and under are free.

The tour route takes us through Barton Springs Pool. Because the cost to enter the pool varies from $1-$8, the tour price does NOT include entry into the pool. Visit this page  for a list of Barton Springs Pool entry fees and bring a credit card or a bit of extra cash.
