Come explore Austin’s beautiful Barton springs. A popular recreation site among visitors and residents alike, the freshwater springs are Austin’s environmental, historic and cultural center. This tour explores the ancient environmental forces that created the springs’ unique ecology as well as the springs’ impact on human culture and settlement over the past 4,000 years. We will learn about the importance of the springs to Native American spiritual, economic and migration practices, the impact of the springs on early Spanish exploration and on the 19th century settlement of Texas, the development of the spring's modern infrastructure, and the relationship between the springs and 21st century Austinites. Stops include Barton Springs Pool as well as two other nearby springs and Zilker Park.

Tour length: Around 2 hours
